is the first pair of glittens I have made for the season. These are made from Cascade 220 Superwash in “Manly” colors. Hope they fit. There are “how to” photos (Scroll down to Sept 29th post) on my blog, and I hope to write up a recipe for these in the near future. (Free of course)
First Mittens of the Season
Posted October 12, 2007 by dreamsinfiberCategories: finished!

I can’t believe cold weather has almost descended upon us! My son was in need of a pair of mittens so I whipped up a quick basic pair. More information can be found here.
Are we getting started yet?
Posted October 2, 2007 by helenkosingsCategories: Cold hands! (WIP)
I am curious….. Even here in Alabama the weather is getting cooler and my thoughts turn to mittens (and socks). I have to be careful not to spend so much time designing new things that I never get anything finished.
I have several things started and I am part of a couple of mittenswaps. I’ve never done it before and it is serious fun!
One is over at LiveJournal . What a lovely group! It’s closed to new swappers, but I’m pretty sure it will happen again. You can see the pictures and read the posts here.
There’s another one happening that’s open ( it’s international too) . It’s the “No More Humdrum Mittens” swap, and there are a good number of links to various groovy mitten patterns. I hope lots of you join this one; I’d love to swap some mittens with someone here!
These are three mittens that I’m working on right now. All are made with various weights of Rowan Cashsoft (and a few other scraps here and there).

I cannot hardly wait to see what others are working on!

Summer is almost over! MITTEN TIME!
Posted July 21, 2007 by SandyCategories: Cold hands! (WIP)
It’s almost the end of July. You know what that means? Mitten weather is coming soon and I’m sure that you know someone who could use a mitten or two!
I have so many mittens planned in my head, I couldn’t LIVE that long!
How about you? Ready to knit mittens?
Gloves for NEXT winter… (I hope!)
Posted April 20, 2007 by kathyiniowaCategories: finished!
I just finished these gloves, and certainly hope I do not need them any time soon! I made them as part of a KAL. While they look difficult, they really were not. The fingers were a little fiddly, and I hope to get very short glove needles before I make another pair. That would help.
These were made on Pony Pearl 2.00mm DPNS for the hands, 2.25mm for the fingers. The brown is and Opal Uni, and the multi is Socks That Rock – Coublestone County colorway.

Last mittens for the season?
Posted March 21, 2007 by MaudCategories: Warm Hands, finished!
I have finished the Seiskari mittens, just in time for a cold peak. Weather prognosis is talking for a warmer period to come, but right now are as well mittens as hats still needed. Here are the specifics:
Pattern: Seiskari mitten, traditional colour pattern, mitten pattern my own.
Yarn: Isager Tvinni, about 57 grams for teenaged boy hand.
Needles: 2mm dpns.
More: 80 stitches for the rib, 84 stitches for the hand.
The top of the mitten is bound off with a three stitches band decrease, that is two normal decreases with a stitch in between. When all three (the right slanting decrease, the middle stitch and the left slanting decrease) are all knitted in the same colour it will look like a three stitches wide band. The thumb has a one stitch decrease, that is one stitch from the left side and one stitch from the right side is decreased at the same time under the middle stitch, which will form an on-stitch band up along the side of the thumb.
There is a slight risk this will be my last pair of mittens for this season. I’m working on a spring cardigan, and eagerly waiting for yarns I have ordered for a biggish sweater project.
More pictures of the Seiskari mittens and my other projects on my blog The Yarn Nest. And I have put up a gallery with all my Finnish mittens collected in one place, there is a link in the sidebar. There is also a link to all the teddy clothes I have knitted and sewn during the last three years.

I finished my stripey mittens! I adore them.

There will be more about these mittens in my blog tomorrow.
New mitten started!
Posted March 14, 2007 by MaudCategories: Cold hands! (WIP), works in progress!
Hello!
I have started a new pair of mittens. I actually started them a few weeks ago, held a paus, and took up them again a week ago. The pattern is again, surprise surprise, a traditional Finnish pattern, but also known in Estonia and Gotland, Sweden. I’m using Isager Tvinni yarn and 2 mm dpns. They are for my teenage son, and my, he has huge hands!
As you can see, spring is about to arrive to Finland! I do really have to hurry up with the second mitten!
More about the pattern and the yarn on my blog The Yarn Nest. Click at the link in the sidebar and you get both posts on the mittens.
Maybe my last mittens of the season?
Posted March 8, 2007 by patknitsCategories: Warm Hands, finished!
Or maybe not.
This is a pair of Dulaan Mittens that I knit with 4 strands of patterned sock yarn held together on US 9 needles….(I wound the skein into 8 little balls then matched up 4 strands of each and knit the mittens 2 at a time for a perfect pair!) They are very warm, soft and so bright and child friendly! For more info….(not much more)….check here.
Multi-Tasking

I’m a member of the stranded knitting KAL, as well as perennially here at Warm Hands Central. This project fits both categories. I’ve only finished one mitten, and am about to cast on the 2nd, but I will run out of the rust yarn (Cascade Eco-Wool) soon, so I may face a wee bit of a problem. I’m sure I won’t have trouble finding more of the yarn, though.
I’m very new at stranded knitting, and this was meant as practice. I still need much more practice. I am so very right-hand dominant, the tension in the stranding fluctuates quite a bit. I’m going to send the finished pair of mittens to the Dulaan Project when they’re done.
